What We Do

Welcome to Book Dreams Inc., a nonprofit organization devoted to promoting a love for reading. Our initial projects prioritize providing books to children who lack them.

In April 2024, we hosted an event for patients and their families at the New York-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan. We donated books for every child in the hospital, with extras for the hospital library. In addition to choosing a book for themselves, children worked with volunteers from Columbia University's medical school to make collaged mood jars at the event, which was held in the hospital's lobby. Books and mood jar creation kits were delivered bedside to children unable to attend the event.

In 2023, in partnership with the independent bookstore Books Are Magic and the NYC Secret Snowflake program, we donated 300 books for children who receive social services from New York City agencies. This includes children in the foster care system and shelter system.

In 2022, we covered the cost of filling the bookmobile of the Joyride Bookshop with books for the students at The Monarch School, which serves homeless children in San Diego. The bookmobile arrived at the school, and each of the roughly 300 children chose a book for themselves, just in time for the holidays. We had invaluable help from Words Alive, an organization devoted to inspiring a commitment to reading.

For our pilot project in 2021, we partnered with Cavalier House Books, an independent bookstore in Denham Springs, Louisiana, to help DeQuincy High School re-stock its library, which was ruined after two hurricanes hit roughly six weeks apart. Roughly 85% of the library's collection was lost, and students currently have access to only 66 books.

Book Dreams Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization.  All donations are tax deductible
